Thanks to Ray

It was my mailman Ray Maeda that first reported seeing a pair of GBHs on a nest, the nest being visible from one of his stops. That is the only nest that had seemed active.

But a friend reported seeing four herons flying from the woods on Saturday, which suggests breeding activity might be expanding.
